Frequently Asked Questions

I’m not sure if I wanted to be bonded to Micron upon graduation. Can I still apply?
Yes, you can still apply for the scholarship. Although all successful applicants will need to sign a bond, we offer shortlisted applicants the opportunity to visit Micron to learn about us, visit our operations, and speak to our engineers/ managers. This is an opportunity for you to get to know us better, before you are called in for interviews.

Once a scholar is selected, are they able to change schools (example: from NUS to NTU)?
Yes, as long as the Scholar graduates with a degree from one of the approved course/universities, and the exchange has been approved by the respective universities.

Does the selected scholar have to do an Industrial Attachment/Internship with Micron?
It is to the scholar’s advantage to have their Industrial Attachments/ Internships in MSA, since this gives him/her an early exposure & introduction to the work environment & nature at Micron.

Are scholars given preferential treatment in their job advancement after serving the bond with Micron?
Scholars will go through the normal interviewing and hiring procedures as any new hire. The position and starting pay will be based on experience, skills set, and any pay adjustments after hire will be based on performance.

Will selected scholars be allowed to pursue graduate studies before serving the bond?
Micron prefers the scholar to complete their bond period before pursuing graduate studies. We feel that this will give the student a better idea, after having worked in the industry, to determine exactly what area to focus their educational studies on. However, if there are any such requests, the Scholarship Committee will review these situations on a case by case basis.

Will a scholar, during their bond period, be considered for additional Micron training at other Asia locations or in the US?
While many engineers do travel overseas for technology transfer training, opportunities for such travel and overseas training are based on the skill set and performance of an individual, and dependent on the need of such travel and training. This applies to all Micron employees.

How many scholars are you looking to bring on this year?
There is no preset number of scholars that we must offer, and each application is assessed individually on their own merits. We are looking for students that have an interest in the semiconductor industry and long term career opportunities at Micron.

Do the scholars get to choose which department they want to work in during their bond period?
As part of the interview and selection process, the Scholarship committee matches students to departments where their educational experience, past IA experience (if there is one) and interest lies. We want the scholar to be happy and excited in their day to day work activities, and to be a solid contributor to Micron.

What are my career opportunities at Micron?
We recognize that individuals have different aspirations. Hence, engineers at Micron can pursue either a management career ladder or a technical career ladder.

What positions does Micron offer for Mechanical graduates?
There are many opportunities for Mechanical graduates in Micron, such as Equipment Engineers, Process Engineers & Package Development Engineers. These engineers are very crucial to operational processes.

What is the starting salary of an Engineer at Micron?
We offer competitive salaries, which commensurate with the individual’s qualifications and experience.

If I choose to do an overseas University attachment, can I do my Industrial Attachment with a company overseas?
This will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
