Fulbright International Science & Technology Award 2011, USA

2011 INTERNATIONAL FULBRIGHT SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AWARD FOR PhD STUDY

The American Indonesia Exchange Foundation (AMINEF) is pleased to announce the availability of approximately 40 awards to be competed worldwide under the aegis of International Fulbright Science and Technology Award for Ph.D. study at top U.S. institutions in science, technology, or engineering for the 2012-2013 academic year matriculants. The Fulbright Program in Indonesia promotes mutual understanding between the Republic of Indonesia and the United States of America through educational exchange and academic scholarship. Fulbright scholarships for this particular program are available to Indonesian citizens with the appropriate qualifications as stipulated below.

ELIGIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS
Applicants will possess:

  • a Bachelor and/or Master’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.00 scale). Undergraduate students who will complete the degree before August 1, 2011 may also apply.
  • demonstrated leadership qualities.
  • a good understanding of Indonesian and other cultures.
  • a deep commitment to the chosen field of study.
  • a determination to return to Indonesia upon completion of the Fulbright program.

Postdoctoral Fellowships in Japanese Studies, Harvard University, USA

The Edwin O. Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies at Harvard University will offer several postdoctoral fellowships in Japanese studies to recent PhDs of exceptional promise, to give them the opportunity to turn their dissertation into publishable manuscripts.
The Fellowship Grant:

  1. Each fellowship will cover a 10-month period, beginning September 1, 2011, with a stipend of $44,000 health insurance coverage for the grantee and research/travel funds.
  2. Postdoctoral fellows will be provided office space, and access to the libraries and resources of Harvard University.
Responsibilities of Postdoctoral Fellows:
Residence in the Cambridge/Boston area and participation in Institute activities are required during the appointment. Postdoctoral fellows will be expected to give a presentation at the Reischauer Institute’s Japan Forum lecture series. During their term of appointment, postdoctoral fellows will be expected to contribute to the teaching program at Harvard, normally by offering one undergraduate course during the fall or spring semester of the academic year. Areas of particular interest for 2011-12 tentatively include Japanese film; Japanese popular culture; Meiji history; Japanese imperialism/war memory; gender and politics in East Asia; political economy of Japan; and Japanese-Americans in history, culture, politics, and/or society. Broader courses that include, but are not limited to, Japan are especially encouraged.

The Graduate Assistants will investigate the coupling of Single Phenomena Models into one Multi-Phenomena Model, and the application of statistical methods to quantify uncertainty, determine parameter sensitivity and infer parameter values from experiments.

Our work covers a diverse and ever-expanding spectrum of application
domains with a focus on infrastructure modeling; our current portfolio includes communication networks, transportation networks, commodity networks, epidemic modeling, agent-based activity modeling, and social networks. Our simulations model large-scale socio-technological systems with high fidelity. To tackle the scalability challenge, we implement our systems on high-performance distributed computing clusters. Cultural Studies at Queens (CSQ) is a unique graduate program that integrates the range of theoretical and practical approaches used within Cultural Studies, and fosters scholarship in both historical and contemporary fields of research. Drawing on a range of practices, Cultural Studies researchers investigate values, beliefs and belongings, cultural processes and cultural objects, economic and social relations, institutions and identities.

Comprising 69 distinguished faculty from 21 disciplines, CSQ offers an innovative program at the M.A. and Ph.D. levels that includes opportunities for cultural production and community and activist fieldwork. Fujitsu Scholarship

The Fujitsu Scholarship provides full financial assistance for postgraduate education and cross-cultural management training in the East-West Knowledge Leaders Program (EWKLP) to participants from the Asia-Pacific region. Fujitsu Limited established the Fujitsu Scholarship Program in 1985 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its founding.

The EWKLP has a three-month curriculum, which synthesizes the best practices of both the East and West. You will sharpen your global management knowledge and skills, and build the confidence necessary for success in global business situations.

EWKLP is run by JAIMS, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Fujitsu established JAIMS as a nonprofit postgraduate institute in 1972. Many Fujitsu Scholarship recipients are now working for corporate and social-service organizations across the globe. As a EWKLP graduate, you too will become a member of a vibrant global alumni network.


Qualification
In addition to qualifying for the Fujitsu Scholarship, you must also qualify for admission to JAIMS' EWKLP. For complete EWKLP information, refer to the EWKLP Application Packet contained at the bottom of the Application Checklist section. Fujitsu Scholarship qualifications include the following:

1. A bachelor's degree or a degree equivalent to a four-year standard baccalaureate degree in any discipline from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.
2. Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
3. A minimum TOEFL score of 577/233/90 (paper/computer/Internet), TOEIC score of 750, or IELTS overall band test result of 6.5 or higher from tests taken between March 2008 and March 2010. Applicants who received a bachelor's degree or an advanced degree with at least two years of full-time coursework within the last five years from a regionally accredited institution in the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, or New Zealand; or from a university in Canada, Africa or Singapore, where English is the language of instruction are exempt from taking the TOEFL, TOEIC, or IELTS.
4. A minimum of three years of relevant full-time work experience (five years preferred) at the time of application.
5. To qualify for the Fujitsu Scholarship, applicants must be a resident of the state of Hawaii, U.S.A., or a citizen of one of the following countries: Australia, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam.

2010 – 2011 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program Global UGRAD

Program Description:
The Office of Academic Exchange Programs in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U. S. Department of State, is pleased to announce a new exchange program for undergraduate students-the 2010 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD)

The Global UGRAD Program provides scholarships for one semester or one academic year of U.S. Study in a NON-DEGREE Program. The goals of the program are to provide a diverse group of emerging student leaders, from non-elite and underrepresented groups in Indonesia and East Asia.

All global UGRAD Program participants will be enrolled full-time in undergraduate course work chosen from the institution’s (US) existing curriculum to allow students ample opportunity for ongoing interaction with U.S. Faculty and student peers, and for exposure to U.S. academic and classroom culture.

To ensure that students succeed in their new academic environments, host institutions will offer tailored instruction on topics including academic research and writing, critical thinking, time management, note taking, and studying for and taking tests. Participants will live on campus with American peers.

Students will also be provided with opportunities to participate in up to ten hours of community service per semester. Additionally, an internship component will be offered to all academic-year participants during the academic component of the program. Internships will be related to each participant’s field of study and/or career plans.

Participants may be eligible for up to 4 weeks of intensive English Language instruction in the United States prior to the start of academic portion of their program.

Eligibility:

1. Scholarships will be granted to students who currently are enrolled in S-1 degree programs only, and have completed their first semester and up to their firth semester of undergraduate study at an Indonesian university.
2. Applicants should demonstrate leadership potential through academic work, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.
3. Applicants must have minimum Institutional TOEFL score of 500-score less than two years old. In some cases a personal interview by a fluent qualified Native English Speaker who can confirm that the nominee would be able to achieve that score when tested is acceptable. Candidates must also meet all the requirements of the institution where admission is being sought.
4. Preference will be given to those who have had little or NO experience in the U.S. or outside of their home countries.
5. Applications can be for either for one semester or two semesters based on nominee’s availability. No applications should be submitted for both one semester and full year programs.
6. Applicants are required to return to Indonesia after the completion of the one or two semester program.

SUMITRO FELLOWS 2009 GRANT APPLICATIONS

The United States Indonesia Society (USINDO) invites applications for its two 2009 travel/study grants for post-doctoral scholars, Ph.D. candidates, senior academics, and otherwise professionally qualified candidates to engage in field research in Indonesia on an economic or political-economic topic. One grant is available to United States citizens and permanent residents in the United States with a specific project relating to the political economy of Indonesia . The Indonesian Sumitro Fellowship is open to an Indonesian citizen with a project related to the Indonesia-United States bilateral relationship. Previous travel to, and experience in, Indonesia or the United States (for Indonesian Sumitro applicants) is desirable but not necessarily a requirement. The deadline for the 2009 Sumitro Fellows Applications is Friday, October 31, 2008.

The Sumitro Fellows program honors Dr. Sumitro Djojohadikusumo, Indonesia ’s senior economist and advisor to USINDO, who passed away in 2001. An architect of Indonesia ’s modern economy, Professor Sumitro headed the faculty of economics at the University of Indonesia , and was later a minister of trade and minister of state for research. Professor Sumitro was also the driving force behind a 1950’s program of the Ford Foundation which sent Indonesian economists to U.S. academic institutions for advanced degrees. Many attended the University of California at Berkeley and the group came to be known as the “Berkeley Mafia” when its members assumed many key cabinet posts in subsequent decades.

The Sumitro Fellows grants for the 2009 application cycle are $10,000 each.

Sumitro Fellows Application Guidelines for 2009

Eligibility: Applicants for the US Sumitro Fellowship must be United States citizens or permanent residents in the United States with a specific project on Indonesia ’s political economy. Applications outside the scope of economics or political economy will not be considered. Applicants for the Indonesian Sumitro Fellowship must be Indonesian citizens with a specific project on any aspect of the Indonesian-US bilateral relationship. Applications related strictly to American topics or on non-US or non-Asian themes will not be considered. Applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age and/or physical impairment.

Language Proficiency: Please note that though not compulsory, prior study of Bahasa Indonesia is helpful in conducting field research. Applicant should indicate on the application form if and at what level the language has been studied, both formally and informally. Indonesian applicants must be capable of advanced study in English. Evidence of English fluency may be demonstrated by TOEFL scores.

Notification: USINDO will announce the winner in December 2008.

Applying for ACI Graduate Scholarships

Important note: The 2009-2010 ACI Graduate Scholarship Program is OPEN.
Applications for ACI Graduate Scholarships are available below to the general student population and do not require a faculty nomination.

All ACI Student Fellowship applicants are also strongly encouraged to apply separately for any graduate scholarships that they may be eligible for. In the event that you do not receive an ACI Student Fellowship, you would then have the opportunity to compete for one of the many graduate scholarships offered. You must submit a separate application to be considered for the graduate scholarships. Please find the graduate scholarship application below.

ACI Graduate Scholarship Program 2009-2010

$3,000 (U.S.) awards are available through the ACI Foundation for graduate study in the field of concrete for the 2009-2010 academic year. The awards include the
ACI-W. R. Grace Scholarship, V. Mohan Malhotra Scholarship, Kumar Mehta Scholarship, Katharine and Bryant Mather Scholarship, ACI Bertold E. Weinberg Scholarship, and ACI Scholarship.

• The ACI-W. R. Grace Scholarship is ACI’s first and longest-running industry-sponsored educational scholarship. This award was endowed by W. R. Grace and Co. and is offered annually as a continuation of Grace’s commitment to new technology in the concrete industry.

• The V. Mohan Malhotra Scholarship was established to acknowledge Dr. Malhotra, Chairman of CANMET’s Organizing Committee, for his efforts in organizing many international conferences, workshops, and seminars in the area of concrete technology. Recipients must be majoring in concrete materials science research.

• The Kumar Mehta Scholarship was initiated by Dr. Mehta in 2002 to recognize students pursuing research on sustainable development of concrete. Recipients must demonstrate ongoing effort to conduct graduate research on sustainable concrete.

• The Katharine and Bryant Mather Scholarship was established in 1988 to honor Katharine and Bryant Mather for their exceptional contributions to the knowledge of concrete. Initial funds were contributed by the sponsoring committee of an international symposium held in 1987 to honor the Mathers. Both Mr. and Mrs. Mather, deceased, were Honorary Members of ACI and Mr. Mather served as President in 1964. Continuing funding is provided by a gift from the Mather estate. The scholarship is for graduate study in the field of concrete.

• The ACI Bertold E. Weinberg Scholarship was named in 2003 to recognize Mr. Weinberg, the ACI Scholarship Council Chairman.

• The ACI Scholarship was also established by the ACI Scholarship Council and receives funding through generous contributions by members of ACI International. This award is also granted based on the availability of contributions received.

2009-2010 ACI Graduate Scholarship Application

2009-2010 Online Reference Form

The following criteria apply to all graduate scholarship applicants. Please read and follow this information carefully.

1. At the time of receiving a graduate scholarship (not necessarily at the time of application), the applicant shall possess a bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education which is accredited by the responsible regional or national agency.

2. At the time of acceptance of a graduate scholarship (not necessarily at the time of application), the applicant shall have been accepted for graduate study at an accredited college or university in an engineering, architecture, or materials science program. The graduate study program shall be in the area of concrete with an emphasis on structural design, materials, construction, or any combination thereof. Applicants for the V. Mohan Malhotra Scholarship must be accepted for graduate study in concrete materials science research. Applicants for the P.K. Mehta Scholarship must be pursuing graduate research in sustainable concrete.

3. Applicants must be a full-time first or second-year (after bachelor’s degree) graduate student during the entire scholarship year. Course work during a summer session will count toward the degree year. Applications will be accepted from anywhere in the world but graduate study must take place in the United States or Canada during the award year.

4. For your application packet to be considered for this award, each of the following pieces of information must be submitted by the deadline indicated:

*Completed 2009-2010 typed application form (handwritten applications will not be accepted)
*One-page resume (anything over one page will not be accepted)
*Essay (1-page limit, 500 words or less, name must be on first page, please include all scheduled classes for balance of academic year)
*Two (2) completed online reference forms
*All undergraduate and graduate transcripts (all universities attended during all undergraduate and graduate years)

ACI staff does not contact applicants upon receipt of their application materials.

5. The application, essay and resume should be sent to scholarships@concrete.org together in one email package. Hard copies of applications, essays and resumes will not be accepted.

6. Transcripts are only accepted if:
1) they are original documents. Unofficial transcripts, copies of transcripts, faxed, or emailed transcripts are not acceptable under any circumstance.
2) they are mailed directly from the university or
3) they are mailed by the student but are in a sealed envelope with a university stamp over the seal.
4) they are in English or accompanied by a translated English version as well as an explanation of the grading scale if different from the 4.0 scale used in the United States.

If transcripts sent to ACI have a different last name than what appears on your application (maiden name), be sure to note it in parentheses on the name line of this application.



7. Online reference forms are statements of evaluation of the applicant, in terms of potential for growth, character, leadership capacity, and career interest, which are required from two evaluators. One online reference form must be from a faculty member. We ask that the other be from an employer, if possible. All reference forms must be submitted in English. Only the online reference form will be accepted. Mailed, emailed, or faxed letters of recommendation will not be accepted. There is no need for more than two reference forms. Only the first two reference forms received will be included in your final application package. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all application materials are received by the deadline.

8. All applicants must be proficient in the English language (or French as required in the Province of Quebec or Spanish in Puerto Rico). If one of these is not your native language, a written statement must be attached to this application attesting to this proficiency.

9. The deadline for all application materials is 11:59 p.m. EST on November 14, 2008. Please be sure that your name is on every piece of material submitted.
10. All graduate scholarships can be withdrawn for failure to comply with any of the items above.
