Graduate Research Assistant (GRA), Ph.D. Biogeochemistry of Organic Metal Binding Agents
NCSU Soil and Environmental Biogeochemistry Laboratory (PI: Owen Duckworth)
JOB DESCRIPTION
We seek an exceptional Ph.D. student to conduct NSF-funded independent research on the interactions of microbial exudates (siderophores) with mineral surfaces and metals. Activities include conducting traditional geochemical, molecular modeling, and cutting-edge spectroscopic experiments to better understand the fundamental mechanisms of biogeochemical processes. Opportunities exist to interact closely with collaborators in and travel to Northern California and New York City.
Related activities include laboratory work in Raleigh and California; data analysis; report and manuscript preparation; and presentation of research at local, regional, and national meetings. All GRAs participate in our teaching program by assisting in the instruction three laboratory sections of the introductory undergraduate soils course or an equivalent teaching experience.

QUALIFICATIONS
M.S. degree in Chemistry, Geology, Environmental Science or Engineering, Soil Science, or a closely related discipline. Demonstrated excellence in academics, and written and oral communication skills.
STIPEND
Annual stipend is $18,000. Tuition and health insurance are covered under the Graduate Student Support Plan.
